High-contrast “fusion reality” superimposes crystal-clear images onto the surrounding environment.

Amalgamated Vision:

Obsessed with wearable optics for the real world.

AV monocular micro-projector for virtual retinal display (concept design), see-through components not required.

The world's most influential tech companies are in a race to build head-mounted XR displays that people will want to wear every day. However, the physical properties of optical hardware present seemingly insurmountable obstacles to commercially viable products.

Amalgamated Vision is an optical design company dedicated to solving the engineering problems holding the HMD industry back.

We don’t use waveguides and we’re not birdbath.

Instead, we’re building an incredibly compact light engine that doesn’t rely on see-through optical components for brilliant, high-resolution display — it projects images directly into the eye with no intermediary surfaces.

Our patented ultra-near-to-eye virtual retinal display is:

  • lightweight, well-balanced, and comfortable enough for all-day wear

  • unobtrusive and invisible until needed — it never obstructs normal vision

  • high contrast “fusion AR” that superimposes digital information over the real-world environment in a seamless augmented reality experience that other headsets can’t replicate.

It's like nothing you've ever seen before.

Transforming the way we see data and images.

Amalgamated Vision is the only company to successfully employ patented laser-based optics in a mobile display experience that doesn't interfere with your ability to see the world around you.

Headsets manufactured using AV technology will be lightweight and low profile with exceptional image quality, even in bright sunlight.

With "AV inside", eyewear will be ultra-near-to-eye and ergonomic, resting comfortably on the face in monocular or 3D stereoscopic binocular formats.

High resolution, brilliant luminescence, deep color saturation in a practical active field of view — it’s there when you need it, out of sight when you don't, with no distracting data directly in front of your eyes.

INNOVATIVE PANCAKE LENS SOLUTION

Our proprietary design uses pancake optics to fold the path of laser light into a compact space, achieving superior brightness and resolution with minimal or no color aberration. Optically speaking, we are a pupil relay, not a traditional image relay like the commonly used waveguides and combiners on the market today.

LASER LIGHT ADVANTAGES

Laser light is bright, true to color, and energy efficient. Our innovative design and technology make it perfectly safe for everyday use.

SMALL FOOTPRINT - BIG IMAGE

Our optics allow the laser light exit pupil (the visible region) to be expanded to a comfortable size - a feature no other company in the world has achieved without a waveguide or combiner. FOV and resolution are customizable — our initial designs are 24° x 13.5°, comparable to a smartphone held 18 inches from the eye; additional configurations can achieve 50° x 30° and 1920 x 1440p.

VIRTUAL RETINAL DISPLAY - NO INTERMEDIARY SURFACE REQUIRED

Unlike traditional head-mounted displays, virtual retinal display projects the image into your eye and creates the illusion of a standard screen. There is no physical image.

MULTIPLE PLANES OF FOCUS

Our patented innovative optical design simply and elegantly allows for multiple planes of focus within a single image, the way we experience natural light in the real world. This is the “holy grail” of head-mounted display.

Features At-A-Glance

  • Low-profile display adjacent to or below the primary visual field does not obstruct normal vision

  • Optical module + frame + cables = < 30g on the face

  • Simple focus, and resolution to match the human eye (2 arc minutes)

  • Wide beam (8mm exit pupil) obviates the need for eye tracking

  • Minimum of 24 x 13.5 FOV (monocular, equivalent to a smartphone @ 18 inches)

  • RGB laser - unsurpassed color saturation, millions of colors

  • Intense luminescence visible in bright sunlight

  • Inherently stereoscopic (binocular) – ready for 3D

  • Light-field capable (multi-focal plane)

  • Energy-efficient laser light source, up to 2 hours of continuous use

2020 NASA ITECH CYCLE I WINNER

Next generation optics for a
$23 billion-dollar global industry.

Amalgamated Vision is set to launch a new display category with numerous real-world applications. Our novel light engines, designed with human factors engineering in mind, can be worn all day without causing the physical and cognitive strain associated with other wearable displays.

As a component manufacturer, our core technology is vendor and content-agnostic. We can collaborate with any manufacturer, OEM, or ODM to provide customized display components or license our IP to meet specific user requirements. We can easily adapt our modular light engines to fit binocular HMD formats above or below the eyes when stereoscopic imagery is preferred.

Our first working prototypes of a non-obstructive monocular virtual display with fusion AR, funded by multiple SBIR awards from NASA and U.S.A.F. / AFWERX, will be completed and available for demonstrations in Spring 2025.

Aerospace

The aerospace industry is looking for technologies that satisfy the need for high-quality, hands-free informatics display that doesn't interfere with situational awareness.

Our solution, small enough to easily fit inside the helmet of an astronaut or a pilot, will deliver critical just-in-time information while the wearer stays fully connected to their environment.

AV headsets will be light and move precisely with the head without touching the eye. Most importantly, our non-obstructive format will never endanger the wearer if power to the display should fail.

Healthcare

XR-enabled remote telemedicine and 3D representations of complex anatomical structures are rapidly becoming routine practice in global healthcare and medical education.

Surgeons, interventionalists, nurses, emergency technicians - all need to move freely, work with their hands, and reference real time patient data - whether it is medical imaging, vital signs, or patient histories.

Medical professionals require a reliable, unobtrusive way to view hands-free data because obscuring the vision of healthcare providers is simply not an option.

Manufacturing & Technology

Engineers, mechanics, and maintenance personnel are safer and more efficient when they can access important data on a hands-free mobile display that permits complete situational awareness.  This is important in hazardous or high-stress environments.

Traditional prescriptive  lenses or safety glass can be easily attached to the frame of a head-worn device with AV inside. Use cases include industrial assembly, site inspections, routine maintenance and repair, and tech support in the field.

Everyday Consumer

Our optical  display system will power fashionable, lightweight XR glasses that become as indispensable as a mobile phone for navigation, search, communication, and social/mobile commerce.

Consumers will appreciate a slim, look-down form factor that's ideal for media, entertainment, and compelling AR experiences, even in bright sunlight.
